About

Since I started working for this newspaper, I've interviewed dozens of people of varying ranks and sectors, but they all seem to have one thing in common: a love for the P word.

Preachers, entrepreneurs, executives, creatives, young folks, old folks--they all tend to gravitate toward statements like, "To enjoy your work / succeed in business / reach your goals / verb your achievement-type-noun, you need to have passion." (Also, "You have to love what you do.")

I've heard enough variations to keep any cynic's eye-rolling muscles in good shape. But instead of joining the eye-rollers, I decided to take my interviewees' words as a challenge.

Every time an interviewee uses or even implies the P word in the right context, I will make something that I enjoy making. It might be an origami model, a ridiculously bad watercolor painting, some paper craft, or even the completion of some long-neglected personal writing. Whatever I feel like making, I will make it, if only to remind myself that there are things I love doing, too.

All the quotes used are on record, whether on tape or in electronic format. If, for some reason, you the interviewee don't want to be here, just let me know, and I'll delete your words (but not my thanks). Also, nothing I say here reflects the opinions of my employers. This is all for fun.
